MEXICUNT: Three-way Fusion

Mexicunt being Amador @tu.amador, Boy Dimension @zaiaix @boy.dimension, and Petrolera @petrol3ra making themselves group fusing art, music, and fashion in an attempt to uplift and amplify Latinx & LGBTQIA+ both off and on the platform (Quoted by Pwned). As they state in their bio wanting to bring "queer Latinx community in Central Texas together." Now here they are from Austin/S.A Tx all the way down to South Texas, Mcallen. We welcome Mexicunt in our home the best way we know how. Serving mexicunt and sweating on the dance floor ~

Here are a few words from the collective,

Petrolera, Boy Dimension, and Amador

Mexicunt, first of all how did the collective first form? Especially deciding on the name as they explain "The collective formed through a shared interest and love for music and noticing a lack of queer latin forward sound in Central Texas. The name Mexicunt is an embodiment of our Mexican heritage through our queer perspective."Y'know it is interesting the way we can see or rather "notice a lack" of something. We'd hear it, but at some point there will be action. Such as the individuals here at home and around Texas creating spaces, collectives, and bringing forward what's "lacking" really brings out those who have been searching and wishing.

Seeing that there are three of you within this collective, how would you say y'all mesh together? From your distinct sounds, mission, goals and the energy you bring forward. "We all bring such a strong creative perspective outside of the work we do for Mexicunt. We started as a closely knit friend group. Coming together and creating felt natural. We live within the same sonic universe and have a deep appreciation for underground latin sounds. The goal of Mexicunt has always been to create a space for our community to be unashamedly themselves." 

What is the aim and purpose of Mexicunt? How have you reached this through your collective as they state "We want to create a space where people feel seen and celebrated without judgement. We’ve been able to highlight talent, both local and out of state, and bring underground sounds to our community and beyond." While there may not be this "physical space", there's the idea and motion of creating spaces into the moment the night of release the closeness and safety amongst one another. That's what it's about. Just how Mexicunt comes to Mcallen, they bring forward their statement of having those be "unshamed" of who they are with each other.

Now, we will be experiencing not only your sets, but your presence in the valley this WEEK! What can we expect from y'all? Especially on the dance floor as they exclaim "Unapologetically sexy Mexicunt energy.. Expect to leave sweating."

Amador, Boy Dimension, and Petrolera

Now, each of you will be having your own sets June 13th. Each of you having your own distinct styles. What will be hearing from each of you? What will you be evoking onto the dance floor? "You’ll be hearing a range of latin sounds from beginning to end that will channel each of our unique perspectives and styles. You’re not going to want to leave the dancefloor, trust." From what Pwned has explained it is a combination of "hard techno, neo-perreo, reggaeton-mexa and experimental Latin club." Reading "neo-perreo" and "reggaeton-mexa" just blows my mind especially to witness/hear/experience a new sound for myself and others around. Sounds that'll make you sweat, sway, shake, and well make us feel sexy more than we already are."

Are y'all looking forward to playing in The Valley? Do you have a message for those attending as well as they say "We are absolutely ready to tear it for The Valley girls. We feel the love and energy every time we make a trip to the valley and the feeling is certainly mutual. One of our residents, Boy Dimension, is valley born and raised so this is a full circle moment. The Valley will appreciate our sound more than anyone." We recently had Shy Margiela come down to The Valley. I didn't know about Shy being from The Valley either, so it's always this as mentioned "full circle" moment to play back home. To bring back home what you've created, learned, and in this case bringing home your mission of bringing forward a "queer latin forward sound" to The Valley, to those who await it month by month here at home.

I'm curious about since the beginning of the collective, how has the collective grown and prospered since day 1 to now? "The first Mexicunt was thrown for us in a backyard and for our sound to evolve and move into the clubs has been fulfilling to witness." From the backyard, the clubs, and now a road trip to The Valley! We're so excited!

Do you have any memories within the collective you tend to look back on? Reminding you this is what you're doing it for, bringing the queer Latinx community together through music and art as stated  as they share by saying "Looking at so many brown and black queer people dancing to underground sounds every time we’re behind the decks is a reminder that this is necessary for our community, now more than ever." This will be another one for the books, another take into the artists which align themselves in creating these spaces, a night in which group of artists apologetically serve " sexy mexicunt energy" to be true to onself in the RGV. Here is to Mexicunt!
