Ch-Ch-Ch Cherry Chrome!

Cherry Chrome, while I've seen their names on flyers - we haven't properly met/introduced ourselves to each other UNTIL the night of Sonidos Migrantes at the Trucha Headquarters. There we spoke a bit on their music, who they are, and here are now. A couple of messages and we were able to conduct this interview. Not only did I want to learn more about this duo - Hannah and Anthony - Cherry Chrome - I look forward to seeing what they release/add onto their bandcamp.

Who are the individuals behind Cherry Chrome and how did this duo come to be? What motivated the both of you to set this into motion?

Hannah:We both make up the “core” of Cherry Chrome, although we usually bring friends to play along with us. It all started from a crave to keep music in my life. Since I can remember, I’ve been surrounded by music — church, school, home — even though nobody pursued it professionally. Post-COVID, living alone, music found me again. But this time, it wasn’t imposed — it was mutual. It felt refreshing.

Anthony:Hannah came to me with this idea during one of our hangouts while sharing music videos. We’ve always been down for anything, which is probably why we flow so well as a team — and so, it was Cherry Chrome :)

Ram: There's nothing better than someone who's just DOWN for a project, down to create and to create a flow that keeps it "refreshing." Refreshing in a sense of not knowing what to expect in terms of creation. 2 individuals, 2 artists, 2 team members looking for a creative outlet - surrounded by music - now making their own. Never feel satisfied, crave for what's next I'd say!

For those who haven't witnessed/experienced Cherry Chrome in action, how would you describe your sound and what you aim to put out onto the dance floor?

Hannah:That’s a hard one. I really oppose the idea of putting ourselves into boxes or categories. No “aesthetic/core/style” labels — just let it be. Things change all the time, so why freeze it under a name? Our approach makes Cherry Chrome feel intimate — it’s supposed to sound the way it feels. There’s still a lot to explore. But the goal is to blend everything we’ve loved and been inspired by.

Ram: "It's supposed to sound the way it feels" The groves - the reflection - the shine - the SHINE that chrome brings forward to any object, shape and/or anything dipped! You know how people say "what you touch turns to gold!" - I was thinking right now - What Hannah and Anthony touch turns to CHROME - what's released is CHROME - and what does that exactly mean? Well as Hannah mentioned "it's supposed to sound the way it feels." Only way to find out - take a listen - see them live.

Your first experience was at Open Decks — how was that? Was that your debut?

Anthony:Yes! Alejandro (@alxjdro) created Open Decks here in the Valley — something we hadn’t seen before. I loved that it gave new DJs a space and the equipment to just go for it. It felt like a way to branch out from our guitar/synth/pedal-driven sets into DJing. The first night was cozy, friendly — and the deck felt like a spaceship. There were some hiccups, but the energy around us kept us going. It was a great night :)

Ram: I'm glad that an outlet such as Open Decks gave y'all the opportunity to put yourselves out there. Open decks is an amazing concept - is an opportunity that has been an open hand for so many artists! It's great!

ree

Then came your first "official" set at a SlaughterHaus show — how did that go?

Hannah:That same night at Open Decks, Slaughterhaus came up to congratulate us — we’d already met her through her shop. A few months later, she invited us to be part of a listening party/show for FKA Twigs' “ESSEXUA.” We had to lock in — we borrowed a deck from our friend MauMau and curated a sexy, funky set with some slush and live OP-1 Field over it. We were nervous — like, really nervous — but we’re forever grateful to Slaughterhaus for believing in us and supporting us since day one. LUV U <3

Ram: Crazy how one thing leads to another - since then y'all have been popping up at various locations and next Cine El Rey! It's interesting how we can be "nervous" - but the moment we're there it goes by so quick! Of course - I speak from different experiences - I can't imagine being behind what's creating the environment via audio for hundreds of PEOPLE!

ree

Slaughterhaus has great ideas - I remember the flyer for that show - their markets at Kreative grounds - their collabs with their friends - especially their skills when up-cycling clothing into new clothes such as the skirts she recently created - very creative individual I'd say!

GRATEFUL FOR OUR DAY ONES FR!

Besides live sets, you also make your own music — is it available anywhere right now? At the moment, just on Bandcamp. But soon, you’ll be able to find our upcoming single on all streaming platforms! We post updates on Instagram: @chxrrychrxme — feel free to follow us <3

How do you both wish to grow as artists? What do you hope to do over time?

The ultimate goal is to never stop creating, never stop changing, and never be afraid of discomfort. As long as we can create from a place of love and passion — we never want to stop.

ree

What does each of you bring to Cherry Chrome creatively? How do you collaborate?

Anthony:We’re lucky to have each other — it sounds cliché but it’s true. If one of us can’t do something, the other usually can. Working together feels like building a staircase — we need each other to make the next step.

Hannah:Anthony’s graphic design skills have taken our projects to the next level — he knows how to translate feeling into visuals. And when it comes to music, he’s incredibly tech-savvy. He set up our instruments, introduced me to Ableton, and opened that whole world up. Creating with someone so kind and talented makes anything feel possible.

Anthony:Hannah brought the soul and inspiration to Cherry Chrome. She’s played everything — piano, French horn, viola, guitar — and once she got a synth, it was game over in the best way. She makes these beautiful progressions and sounds that feel like little worlds. Creating with her is amazing.

Ram: AHHHH STOOOP! :SOB EMOJI: I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! CHERRY CHROME HAS CHROMAFIED MY HEART <3! The way both of you describe one another is absolutely everything - when Hannah mentioned earlier "It's supposed to sound the way it feels" in terms of Cherry Chrome...this is it...isn't it? This is the feeling behind Cherry Chrome and we can see it/hear it. The "little world" created by the both of you.

Your upcoming gig is with Maye on July 26 — how are you feeling about it? What can we expect? We’re excited! Nervous too, of course, but mostly grateful. We’ve teamed up with some friends and can’t wait to share the moment with everyone.

Ram: Oh? So we can expect to see some more individuals at the show during the Cherry Chrome set? Hmmmmm

ree

Anything you can tease for us to look out for?Our debut single is coming soon — keep an eye out! 👀
